The 3 Biggest Reasons People Avoid Self-Care

Awhile back I polled people about why they let self-care drop off their radar.

Three things came up again and again and again.

  • Money
  • Time
  • Guilt

People feel that giving themselves self-care is expensive.

People feel that they don’t have enough time in the day to offer themselves self-care.

People feel bad about it.

Here are my ideas about reframing so that money, time and guilt don’t get in your way of self-care.

If you want a bunch of other ideas, you can have my Self-Care Self Love Month Workbook. Enjoy.

Peace, Sarah

The Self-Care Self-Love Loop

February is a challenging time for me. Around this time – I’m a little tired of the relentless cold and the lack of color and tend to take a walk on Poopy Street. I try to be a ‘hearty Minnesotan’ but it’s such a looooong season. It was out of this feeling that Self-Care & Self-Love Month was born.

Today I want to introduce the Self-Care & Self Loop. It looks like this:

It has served me well over the years and maybe it will help you too. Here’s how it works:

  • Notice that you have a want or a need that would support the whole of you in some way. It doesn’t have to be complicated – cup of tea, breath, taking a quiet moment.
  • Give yourself that want or need.

Simply recognizing that you have a want or need and gifting it to yourself…that’s self-care. It is seeing that your wants and needs are worthy of honoring.

This small act starts to plant seeds in your garden that grow into Self-Love. Caring for yourself fertilizes Self-Love.

Then the amazing thing is that when those flowers start blooming, your cycle continues by giving yourself MORE SELF-CARE.

It’s beautiful. Click here for a short video that has some more details and examples from my own life. Let me know if it resonates. Also, let me know what YOU do to care for yourself.

Happy February, S

Top 3 Reasons People Avoid Self-Care

Loving on your beautiful self can get lost in the shuffle of life. All of a sudden at the end of your day – you’ve given at work, you’ve given to your family, you’ve given-given-given…except to yourself.

Self-Care is a gift you give your SELF. And I propose that it these small acts of kindness woven together throughout our day that promotes SELF-LOVE. Self-Care is a steppingstone to Self-Love.

Mirror Work

Self-Care and Self-Love Idea:

Mirror Work. It’s super weird, but REALLY powerful work.

Grab a sticky note, write one of these phrases on it:

“I accept you unconditionally right now.”
“You’re a gift.”
“I love you.”

Stick it on your bathroom mirror.

Look yourself in the eye anytime you go to the bathroom, IN THE EYE, and say what’s on the sticky note. It might feel really strange at first and you might want to avoid this work – that’s really telling no?

Do it for 30 days.

No joke…this work here will change some stuff inside. Promise.

You’re worth it. xo.

Self Care – Idea

This month, challenge yourself to do ONE small thing each day to show yourself love and care.

One small thing.

Each day.

Don’t let the things that normally stop you from self-care get in your way. (In yoga teacher training, we call those ‘confusion strategies’ – things that we design ourselves to hinder our own growth, care or understanding.)

Step sweetly out of your own way and do this for your highest good.

Be creative!

Pedicure too expensive? – Lotion your feet.
No time for yoga? – Take 3 deep breaths during your day.
Can’t make time for exercise? – Drink one more glass of H2O each day.

Sometimes people say they don’t have enough money for self care…self care doesn’t have to cost a thing. https://turinofitness.com/2016/02/09/self-care-month-i-cant-afford-it/

Here’s the invitation – Make yourself a priority in your own life.

You’re worth it.

Namaste:) S
